A quiet end to the end of regular season football means a loud start to playoff play.
Beaver Area currently sits at a record of 7-2 with one game remaining in the regular season.
The Bobcats will play the Avonworth Antelopes October 25 in what has become the most anticipated game of the year. This upcoming game will be senior night as well as the section champion determination.
Currently the Bobcats, Antelopes, and Central Valley all are tied for first in the section.
Through the confusing and difficult WPIAL rules, if Beaver Area wins their senior night they will be section champions based on how many points were scored throughout the season. If the Bobcats lose, Avonworth will automatically win the section because they defeated both Beaver Area and the Warriors.
Whether or not the Bobcats win the section title, they will not receive the bye week; Avonworth already secured the week off.
In their first of two away game matchups, the Bobcat football team defeated Deer Lakes in a shutout 42-0 win. The Lancers were previously undefeated until the Bobcats handed them their first loss.
The Bobcats were so confident in their inevitable win that the JV was put in by the third quarter, and the varsity players had much less to worry about than previously expected.
Despite the high score the Bobcats still suffered nine penalties and over 85 penalty yards. Nonetheless, small mistakes such as false starts and holdings proved to be insignificant to the game’s outcome.
Junior and quarterback Travis Clear had over 100 passing yards during the game, while senior Qualan Cain rushed for 156 yards.
The Cats were on the road the following week as well with their game against North Catholic October 11. The Trojans fell to the Bobcats with a 48-10 Beaver Area victory.
This game was once again projected to be close and a good watch but ended with the JV being put in by the fourth quarter.
The Bobcats had a slow start with only 14 points scored in the first half, but after a seemingly energizing halftime break they scored 27 points in the third quarter and 7 again in the fourth.
Notably, senior Amari Jackson was able to complete 79 receiving yards and 61 rushing yards, while freshman Brennan Costnyak had his varsity defensive-back debut and completed four sacks in the games.
For the annual Pink Out game, Beaver Area faced Quaker Valley October 18. For the most part the team knew this would be an easy win, and they were not wrong. The final score was 51-19.
The Quakers had a larger marching band than their football team, so their lack of numbers was a factor in their loss.
All 51 of the Bobcats’ points were scored in the first half of the game, so the JV played the second half.
This game was not only freezing cold but boring to watch due to the varsity offense playing no more than ten plays the entire game.
