‘Tis the season for home runs, loaded bases, and school spirit. The Beaver Area baseball team has high hopes for the 2019 season.
“We hope to end the season with a ring on our fingers,” said senior pitcher Alec Berg.
To reach that grand goal, the team gained a new coaching staff, except for the JV coach. The team’s new head coach is Noah Medich and assistant TJ Lambert. Both Medich and Lambert had prior college playing experience at Geneva College. Medich is a PA Cyber teacher outside of coaching baseball.
The team kicked off their season March 18 with a scrimmage against Chartiers Valley. And it proved to be a perfect season kick off with a win 7-0.
However, there was an unfortunate turn of events when the boys took on the Shenango Wildcats March 25 and lost 9-2. The Bobcats’ two runs were batted in by senior Vinny Masterangelo and senior Dominic Petrella.
“It was rough; we didn’t play great, but we will bounce back and end up in the playoffs,” predicted senior third baseman Petrella.
The team traveled to Mars high school to take on the fighting Planets March 27. The boys started out strong but the game took another rough turn and they lost 8-1. Petrella and Berg both went 2/2 hitting. Petrella had another RBI against Mars.
“I feel that we will accomplish great things this year, a WPIAL championship, and hopefully a state championship as well,” said senior first baseman Mason Rose.
