As you impatiently watch your turkey cook this Thanksgiving or break apart the wishbone, remember: everyone has their own traditions. Some traditions may seem typical while others can seem quite strange to those who have never experienced them.
Can you imagine eating a turkey “inside-out”? For sophomore Jakob Uthoff this is reality.
“We [Uthoff’s family] eat the turkey inside out,” Uthoff said casually.
When you think of eating turkey, you probably think of a plate, fork, and maybe a knife. Uthoff’s family prepares and eats their inside-out turkey on skewers, like kabobs.
Senior Andrew Votilla’s family has less unique traditions.
“We always go to my grandparents’ house,” Votilla commented.
Like Votilla, a common pattern among everyone’s traditions is family.
“I visit my family and eat pie,” junior Spencer Hagen said.
Can you imagine celebrating Thanksgiving twice? Junior Liam Bull can!
“I spend half of the day at my mom’s house and half at my dad’s. I eat a lot of food, and unlike most Americans, we don’t watch Football,” Bull described.
Thanksgiving is an important time to show the people around you how much you care about them, and is also the door into all of the extended season’s holiday festivities. Senior Spencer Crider and his family know how to bring out the Holidays!
“We [Crider’s family] get up on Thanksgiving and plan for the day. After we finish eating we always start decorating for Christmas,” Crider said.
When you gather around the table this Thanksgiving, remember every tradition is special in its own way. Even inside-out turkey.
