The Beaver Area Mock Trial team is back in action, taking on their two remaining opponents during the county competition.
Unfortunately, due to poor weather conditions, the trial against Blackhawk has been indefinitely postponed, with no confirmation for a reschedule.
Fortunately, the trial where the Beaver Area team (prosecution) would take on Lincoln Park’s team (defense), was still able to take place January 30 at the Beaver County Courthouse.
The team, under the guidance of sponsor Mr. Greg Inge, presented a strong case against the Lincoln Park team; between their opening and closing statements, witness testimony, and cross-examinations, however, they fell just short once again, with Lincoln Park taking a controversial narrow victory.
Sophomore Kamryn Menhart claimed the best advocate award for Beaver Area, chosen by Lincoln Park, and sophomore Jack Bechdel claimed the best witness award for Beaver Area, also awarded by the opposing team as per mock trial tradition.
As there are no dates to reschedule the Blackhawk trial, the season is assumed to have come to a close for the Bobcat team.
The students have taken to reflecting on the season and hope to have an even better season next year.
Kamryn Menhart said, “Mock Trial was an experience like no other—I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It taught me so much more about myself that I didn’t even know existed. I met so many amazing people who helped me build confidence within myself. Mock Trial helped me create a clear view of who I want to be in my day-to-day life, as well as who I want to become in the future.”
The students are all looking forward to next season which will kick off at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year.
