The queens of diamonds are ready for the season to start—and to achieve their softball goals.
After not having a season last year due to Covid-19, they are all anxious to get back to work.
“I have set my expectations high. I know this team can do really well this year. We are taking it one game at a time. Our goal ultimately is to win the section and make a run at the WPIAL, hopefully winning it,” explained fourth year coach, Amy Haggart.
Sophomore Kayla Cornell was so lost for words when asked how excited she was about the season’s start, all she could say was: “very.’
The Bobcats have five senior starters: Anna Blum, Emilee Hoenshel, Bailey Nicol, Jordan Nicol, and Mackenie Boyd. They also have a division-one commit to Virginia Tech, junior Payton List.
“Payton List will be a force to be reckoned with on the mound, but honestly our entire team should be watched. The majority of our starters are upperclassmen, and I believe all of them should be watched as everyone plays such an important part on the field,” commented Coach Haggart
After Covid stopped these talented young ladies from having a season last year, this year they are doing everything they can to have a safe and long season.
“We are adapting by following all CDC guidelines and protocols to make sure we are all healthy and able to play the entire season. These girls are ready to go this year, and we will do whatever it takes to make this season happen,” stated Coach Haggart.
The Bobcats have plenty of competition this season as they moved up to the 4A section. They don’t know much about the Montour Lady Spartans, so those two games will be nail biters.
The Bobcats started their season with a scrimmage against the Laurel Spartans March 17 where they ended barely behind 11-10 due to a walk off single by the Lady Spartans in the bottom of the seventh.
Their next scrimmage is tomorrow where they will face the Riverside Panthers at home at 4 p.m.
