The Beaver Area Bobcats have made a surprising turn this year with an 8-2 record in their 2021 season. This record will give them a great attitude going into the playoffs next week against the Laurel Highland Mustangs.
Being in the playoffs this year is a well-earned privilege for the Bobcats, as the last time they were in the playoffs was in 2017.
“Being in the playoffs feels great. We definitely beat everyone’s expectations by proving the people that doubted us wrong in our 8 out of 10 wins this season,” said junior Omari Smith.
The Bobcats currently have a win streak of four; in week 7, they played against New Castle and won 20-14. In week 8, against Chartiers Valley, they won 25-28. Then, in week 9 against Montour, they won 14-7.
Most recently, they had a close win against Blackhawk, 23-21, at Gypsy Glenn Stadium October 29.
The players had a setback in their week 9 game against Montour, when their starting quarterback and captain senior Wyatt Ringer was injured in the game.
“I feel like if Wyatt wasn’t hurt going into the playoffs, we could’ve gone really far, but I have faith in our backup quarterback [Issac Pupi] to help us through,” stated junior Gerrell Leeper.
“Wyatt being hurt definitely hit us really hard, he’s a great football player and it’s going to be hard not having him as our quarterback, but I know that Issac is doing a great job so far, and I have full faith that he will try his hardest to help our team succeed in the playoffs,” said Smith.
Even after the Bobcats’ setback with their starting quarterback getting injured, the team still has faith that they are going to succeed this year.
