The Beaver Area Bobcats volleyball team are “rowing” into a new season!
The volleyball girls have served up their new fall season with a 0-2 record, and their first home game against the Quaker Valley (QV) Quakers being a loss while also falling in their first away game against the Blackhawk Cougars.
Coach Pollins commented about the QV game: “It was very nerve racking because I played four freshmen who are all slightly inexperienced, so I think we fell short because of pregame jitters.”
About the Quaker Valley game, freshman Jaedyn Brown said that, “We didn’t communicate but we grew closer.”
Sophomore Allie Williams explained about the Blackhawk game that “It was a hard game but we fought in overtime.”
Freshman Kailyn Connelly stated, “We didn’t have chemistry and weren’t together as a team, but we played well,” about the unfortunate losses.
Despite initial setbacks, the returning 2021 section champions are charging into the new season led by head coach Suze Pollins and assistant coach Jess Samuels.
Coach Pollins explained that “Our biggest goals [this season] are to make sections, which is hard because we are 2A, and get better every day.”
Over the summer the girls worked hard practicing, attending the Pitt Bradford volleyball camp, and hosting a learning camp for elementary-aged girls with volleyball interests.
The team is being led by team captains varsity junior outside hitter Chloe List and sophomore varsity setter Zoe Ringer.
The WPIAL recently released their projected standings in 2A volleyball and the Bobcat girls are currently expected to come in fifth in the WPIAL. They showed that, despite a rough start, they are ready to fight for their position in the upcoming season.
“Blackhawk is a 3A school, and even though we fought hard they just had so much talent that we couldn’t match,” stated Coach Pollins about the early season non-division match-up.
The Bobcats started the Blackhawk match strong but quickly went down a slippery slope losing the first three sets eliminating the need for the fourth and fifth sets.
The up-and-coming stars of the Bobcat volleyball team consist of returning starters List (6 feet 1 inch), Ringer (5 feet 9 inches) junior libero Mackenzie Fox, junior right-side hitter Reaghan Carroll (5 feet 8 inches) and Connelly (6 feet 1 inch) who are expected to make an immediate impact on the team.
