The Beaver Area girls basketball team is on the road to a playoff spot.
The team played at home December 12 against the Neshannock Lancers. The girls took the big 64-36 win on their home court.
“We played really well as a team and communicated with each other the best we have this season. We won the game because we played as a whole,” said junior Emma Pavelek.
The team didn’t have home court advantage for long. December 16 the girls traveled to Ellwood City to take on the Wolverines. They made the trip worth it coming out with a 53-45 win.
“It wasn’t our best game, and it got close at the end, but we kept the lead and won,” said junior Gina Pollack.
The Lady Bobcats were back at home to take on the Riverside Panthers December 19. The girls remained undefeated coming out with another big win, 43-16.
“We shut them down with our defense which made it really tough for them to get shots off. We hit key shots at the end of the quarters and everyone gave a good effort,” said junior Maddi Weiland.
The Lady Bobcats had a break for the Christmas season, but they came back on fire.
The team returned with the CJ Betters Tournament at CCBC December 27-28.
Their first game of the tournament was against Aliquippa; the Bobcats took another win defeating the Quips 69-31.
The team’s second game was a bit more challenging. ingThey played Central Valley, an out-of-section team. The 3A Bobcats suffered their first loss, 55-44, to the 4A Warriors.
The team started back with their in-section match-ups January 2 away against the Avonworth Antelopes. The Bobcats came out with an overtime win, 50-48.
“We worked so hard and I’m so glad we pulled it out; it was fun to be a part of,” said junior Anna Blum about the overtime success.
But all good things must come to an end as the Bobcats fell to the Mohawk Warriors January 6, the team’s first in-section loss, 55-44. Sophomore Payton List was awarded player of the game.
The team’s next game is tonight away against the Beaver Fall Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Be sure to check the next issue of the ECHO for results.
