Remember the good old days when you would fill out Mad Libs at recess? Mad Libs are back—but in movie form, and I’m not here for it.

That’s all Hallmark movies are at this point—Mad Libs. It’s the same plot over and over again with just a few elements changed each time. Some might even call it a disgrace to classic Christmas movies.

Christmas movies should excite feelings of nostalgia and bliss, but to do so, they need to engage the audience more than Hallmark movies do.

To be straight, Hallmark movies are boring.

They’re they type of movie you put on to fall asleep to. Even if you fall asleep during a Hallmark movie and wake up at the end you could still have a complete understanding of the movie because of how flat the plots are.

The small town baker girl just so happens to have the exact same boy problems as the cowgirl rancher in the last movie. And I’m sure they both have the same common message of “love saves Christmas” or something else equally clichéd.

In my house, my dad has a love/hate relationship with Hallmark movies, and I think you’d be surprised why.

He hates them for the reason most others do (being boring), but he likes them to laugh at their predictable endings through a little game he has.

He likes to try to guess the ending of the movie after watching the first 15 minutes of the movie, and most times he’s successful.

Along with the laughable plots is the even worse acting.

Hallmark tends to find the most sub-par actors who either put too little or too much effort into the acting (not to mention the lookalike A-List celebrities they find that almost look like the OG actors). Just last night I watched a girl swoon over Dollar Store Chris Hemsworth in her Hallmark Christmas movie.

It might be refreshing to watch a simple movie without a complex plot, but after a while it gets old. I’m not saying I hate Hallmark movies, because I agree it’s fun to laugh at the movies’ perfect lives and silly plots. But if it comes down to watching a Hallmark movie or a classic, nine times out of ten I’ll pick the classic.
