Court is now in session for Beaver Area High School’s Mock Trial Team.
These talented students competed in the annual competition hosted by the University of Pittsburgh the weekend of January 8–9.
Senior Mason McCarty-Cogis placed as one of the best witnesses, and junior Ella Peluso placed as one of the best lawyers at the tournament of about 50 competing schools.
McCarty-Cogis shared, “It was really fun to get to go against other schools! I’m really glad that we all got this experience again.”
Unfortunately, due to ongoing Covid concerns the tournament was held via Zoom rather than in-person.
Closer to home, February 1 Beaver Area’s Mock Trial team—coached by Mr. Greg Inge and Mrs. Laura O’Rorke—will be facing off against Blackhawk in their first round of county competition.
The second trial for counties is expected to take place against Blackhawk February 15.
“I think we have a really strong team this year,” senior Nate Grundberg stated, “and we also have a good shot at winning counties.”
Let's hope so. Until then, court adjourned.
