Ah yes! The time that the music department has been preparing for since August: the winter concerts.
December 5, the night started with the Tri-M Induction Ceremony where 16 students joined the other 23 members headed by President Alyssa Caldwell (senior), Vice President Quinn O’Leary (senior), Secretary Hailey Ziegler (senior), and Treasurer Julian Noll (senior) in Beaver Area’s music department honor society.
The ensembles each performed four songs that night beginning with Treble Choir (made up of only females), moving into Concert Band, and ending the night with Concert Choir.
The Treble Choir performed “White Christmas” by Irving Berlin and arr. Mac Huff, “5 Hebrew Love Songs II. Kalá Kallá” by Eric Whitacrw and Hila Plitmann (accompanied by junior Shawn Bouwers on violin), “Silver Bells” by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, and “The Snow” by Edward Elgar (accompanied by Shawn Bouwers and Ms. Caroline Poeggel on violin).
The Concert Band performed “Overture in B-flat” by C. Giovannini, “Mosaic” by S. Paulus, “Old Scottish Melody (Auld Lang Syne)” Traditional, arr. C. Wiley, and “Fantasy on Deck The Halls” by R. Saucedo.
Band Director Mr. JP Scanga stated that he is extremely proud of the high school band students’ performance.
He said, “[The band] were focused and diligent in their classes leading up to the concert, and they carried themselves with confidence and poise on stage. It is a pleasure to work with them every day."
The Concert Choir performed “Carol of the Bells” by M. Leontovich, arr. P. Wilhousky, “Glow” by Eric Whitacre, arr. Emily Crocker, “Ave Verum Corpus” by W. A. Mozart (accompanied by Ms. Poeggel, Shawn Bouwers, and junior Katina Playa on strings).
The audience also got to hear the Treble Choir and the Concert Choir combine to sing “I Saw Three Ships”(arr. Lloyd Larson). The combined choirs were accompanied by junior Abigail Solinger and senior Cassidy Ziegler playing the flute and sophomore Devin Anderson and junior Emily McCreary on percussion.
A special thanks as always to Mr. Scanga, Mrs. Beth Damesimo, and Ms. Poeggel for carefully selecting each piece to fit our school's ensembles.
