The wait is over . . . the new Shake Shack in Robinson has been completed and open for business.
After already opening a location in the Strip District last Spring, the burger chain Shake Shack opened a second location in the Pittsburgh area December 19. (See BASD ECHO issue 5 for more information.)
A couple weeks after opening day I visited this new chain location to see if it was worth the hype. I decided to keep it simple and order a bacon cheeseburger with a chocolate shake.
The burger, smash style, was good and it was worth trying, but I wasn’t overly impressed—and I feel as if it was no better than anything local like Hash N Smash on Third Street or Jerry’s in Bridgewater.
Plus, the Shake Shack experience isn’t exactly value-meal priced: my bill for a burger and shake was $16.
While Shake Shack may be known for their burgers and shakes, they also offer other menu items like cheese fries, hot dogs, and fresh tea/lemonade drinks.
When I visited on a Friday afternoon the restaurant was almost full and fairly busy, which is to be expected having only opened two weeks prior to my visit and being located in the busy North Fayette shopping area.
I felt that it was well run though and kept clean as there was employees cleaning tables and taking the trays away that your food was delivered to you on.
“The food was average in my opinion and the workers were a little odd,” said senior Derrick Anderson who accompanied me on the outing.
One thing is for certain: the restaurant is set up in a great location alongside Chick-Fil-A and Chipotle and it’s in an extremely busy area about a quarter mile away from the Robinson Mall, so there will always be traffic rolling through and placing orders.
However, the next time I am in Robinson I don’t see this being a place that I will visit as there are, in my opinion, better local options or other chains you can patronize . . . or just stay close to home and get Jerry’s which I feel is better.
