The Beaver Area High School boys varsity golf team is off to a hot start. The Bobcats have accumulated a perfect 10-0 record thus far and are a major WPIAL Championship contender in class 2A.

The Bobcats are led by coaches Jeffery Jones and Jake DeLisio. Senior Boyce Hill is the team’s only captain.

The Bobcats’ home course is Seven Oaks Country Club in Brighton Township. The course is very well liked among the team.

Junior Derek Hughes stated, “Seven Oaks is a great course. It’s very well maintained and is very accommodating to our team.”

Other courses that are used for away matches are Fox Trail in Beaver Falls, Deer Trails in Industry, and Ponderosa in Hookstown.

The Bobcats started practice in July and the first match came in early August. Considering how the Bobcats are performing, the season should run well through the early October playoff matches.

The Bobcatss main rival is Southside Area High School, who plays their home matches at Ponderosa. However, the Bobcats’ biggest challenger in the WPIAL 2A is Neshannock High School.

Through the team’s impressive season so far, one player has stood out the most. Freshman Jordan Bello has been the most consistent of all the Bobcats this season. Bello’s standout season has been quite impressive (even shooting a 34) considering how many other talented golfers are on the team. Additionally, junior Logan Weiland has seen exponential improvement this season.

Hughes stated, “Logan has had a great year so far. He has really improved since last year.”

No major changes have occurred since last season for the Bobcats structurally as far as coaching changes or a new home course. Yet, the Bobcats have improved significantly since last season and will make a serious push toward the 2A WPIAL Championship.
