The Bobcat girls’ basketball team is shooting for a winning conference record.
Beaver Area currently has an overall record of 6-9 but a conference record of 3-2.
Following their January 2 loss against the Canon-McMillan Big Macs the Bobcats dusted off for the exciting match-up against the Quaker Valley Quakers January 4.
This game was only their second conference game and the Bobcats were looking for a win. Despite a hard-fought game, the Lady Cats could never overcome the three-point lead that the Quakers had the entire game and added to in the final quarter. The final score was 35-28.
Despite this loss, the Bobcats were still showing promise in their upcoming section games and were able to win.
On rivalry night, Beaver Area was victorious against the Central Valley Warriors with a final score of 55-51. The game was held at home January 8.
Freshman Annsley Baker led the team scoring 28 points while junior Kylie Conley was the second highest scoring player with 14 points.
This victory meant that both the boys' and girls' basketball teams won against our cross-river rivals for the 2024 season.
Following their CV win the Lady Cats used their momentum to earn a huge win against the Ambridge Bridgers.
The Bridgers fell to the Bobcats January 11 with the scoreboard reading 51-23 at the final buzzer.
Senior Chloe Desanzo was the highest scorer with 14 points with senior Lauren Nesbella scoring 7 points and Conley netting 9 points.
Unfortunately, Beaver Area was not able to maintain a winning streak with their loss against the Blackhawk Cougars 42-14. Conley scored six points while sophomore Ava Wright scored four points.
The January 15 loss came as their second conference loss, but this was expected as the powerhouse Cougars are undefeated in both section and conference play.
Beaver Area is currently second in the 4A section 2 conference with Blackhawk in first.
The Ladycats are consistently averaging between 38-45 points per game.
