New school year, CHK around the corner, and pep rallies that need to be planned? The student council is officially in session!
Despite always being confused for each other, the student council (StuCo) is NOT the same as the class officers.
The class officers plan and fundraise for homecoming, the winter dance, and prom, while StuCo plans CHK, pep rallies, and the blood drive.
So for homecoming weekend, the student council was specifically in charge of the pep assembly Friday afternoon while the sophomore class officers planned the homecoming dance.
This year the president of StuCo is senior Charlotte Shultz, Vice President is senior Ava Sutter, Secretary is senior Sophie Burd, and treasurer is junior Annaka Najewicz.
Mr. Dane Schlenke sponsors the student council.
Burd explained that “I really enjoy student council; I think it has been a good opportunity for me throughout high school and I recommend anyone join.”
With the blood drive being an overwhelming success, the StuCo is on a roll and planning for other things.
The Homecoming pep rally was September 27 with juniors Cali Coups and Olivia Tabone taking the microphone and emceeing the event.
The pep rally started with the band playing while students arrived, as well as the cheerleaders doing their football game routines and stunts.
Once the students were seated separated into grades, Coups and Tabone explained the results of all the fall sports teams giving credit to the players who stood out the most this season.
Following the sports recap, the WEKO showed the annual “Homecoming Hype Video” which consisted of clips that WEKO students collected of the fall sports throughout the season.
Since the student body was sitting for a few minutes too long, it was time for games.
This year the StuCo tried to mix in some of the favorite CHK games to make the pep rally more popular: this year, letter jumble, scooter race, and tug of war were played.
Letter jumble allowed the Bobcats to test their spelling skills while trying to spell out “Let’s go Bobcats,” “Beat McGuffey,” and “Happy Homecoming.”
Students were released directly from the gym following the pep assembly to begin the homecoming weekend.
