The Berlin Wall, the “King of Sports,” Lana Del Rey . . . could you answer this wide variety of questions at Trivia Night?
This year’s Trivia Night was February 22 in the cafeteria. A total of 83 players across 14 teams participated, so the event was a huge success.
The event was sponsored by the Woodske family with donations and organization by National Honor Society as the organization’s annal fundraiser.
As usual, all benefits from proceeds went straight into NHS’s Backpack Program.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Backpack Program, Backpacks helps feed students who might not be able to get meals unless they are at school, so lunches are packed for students to take home on weekends or breaks. Trivia Night money buys more lunch items for students.
As a fundraising booster at trivia night was a donation jar at the snack table. Snacks were complementary, but donations were welcomed.
The event raised nearly $500 for the program.
All community members as well as students were welcome to participate in the event. For a small price of just $5 a person, teams of 4-8 players could sign up.
Unfortunately, there was no sign of a teacher team this year. They must have been embarrassed after last year’s defeat.
Trivia Night began promptly at 7 p.m. and ran until all questions in each category were answered.
Categories ranged from Science, to Music, to Pop Culture, to Fun Facts, to Sports, to History, to Finish the Lyric.
If you just so happened to miss trivia night, some of the questions participants had to answer were . . .
“What was Play-Doh’s original use?” - Wallpaper Cleaner
“What is Canada’s national sport?” - Lacrosse
“Who is Elizabeth Woolridge Grant?” - Lana Del Rey
“What is Taylor Swift’s original home state?” - Pennsylvania
After a tough fought battle from numerous teams this year’s grand winner was the “Super Slayers” which consisted of all Beaver Area High School students.
“I’m proud of my team for crushing trivia. I know some of the adults weren’t expecting to lose to high schoolers . . . [but] we didn’t go there thinking we’d win either!” said Super Slayers senior Gracie Turyan.
Surprisingly enough, this team was actually a last minute entry who formed their team day of Trivia Night!
Another member of the winning team, senior Kenzie Fleming, was also very proud of her team’s win: “We had a wide variety of knowledge and that really helped us along. For each category at least one of us always knew the answer.”
The first place winners each won a $20 gift card, the second place team each won a $15 gift card, and the third place team each won a $10 gift card.
Gift cards were all donated to the event from local businesses and local chains; some gift cards included Beaver Nutrition, Subway, Chick-fil-A, Cafe Kolache, and more!
Thank you to everyone who participated and donated to the event—hope to see you again
next year!
