Archery is back on target. The archery team will be competing in the states competition this month! Bring it on, March. The archers are ready.
Although the competition lasts the whole month, the Beaver Area Archery team has a scheduled “shooting” time March 13.
Eight archers are able to shoot at a time due to COVID social distancing restrictions, and parents are able to attend the event. The shots will be scored as normal—however, with a different submission. Scores will be tallied and sent to state judges to determine the team’s place rather than having all teams compete together in a central location as in years past.
Overall, the competition will be as expected, but with less pressure since archers are shooting in a familiar environment.
“The team will likely do better,” predicted senior Connor Stewart, “because we will be relaxed and shooting in the gym and not at a larger venue with a lot of people.”
To prepare for states, the archers have been practicing their 15 meter shots and on “hashing out their releases.”
Stewart decided to practice on stamina and conditioning this time around so he can “hold his aim longer” and to ultimately get to his aiming point towards the end of the competition.
“States will definitely be different,” said Junior Mason McCarty-Cogis, “but the team is up for the challenge.”
Keep up those scores, archers! You will have fans to guide you on the sidelines this time around. Good luck in the states competition!
