They’re sweet. They’re minty. They come in that unique little box, and they make that tell-tale rattly noise . . .
Tic Tacs, the small pill-shaped candies that come in small plastic boxes were invented in 1968 by the Ferrero SpA Company—the same Italian candy company responsible for Nutella. The name Tic Tac came from the easily recognisable sound the candies made when they were shaken in their iconic plastic containers.
Tic Tacs were originally offered only in mint and orange, but over the years the company expanded offerings to include flavors like banana, Strawberry Field, Fruit Adventure, bubblegum, cinnamon, Fresh Mint, and so many more.
When we surveyed Beaver Area High School, 33% of respondents said that orange was their favorite Tic Tac flavor.
“The only good ones are the orange ones,” commented junior Lexie Leith.
In second place with 14.29% came both Wintergreen and Fruit Adventure tied.
Spearmint was third with 12.57%, and Mixers was fourth with 10.71%. While 7.14% of people prefer other flavors of Tic Tac over the above choices.
Banana and Bubblegum came in last with 3.57% of people liking them.
“Wintergreen is the best flavor ever,” senior Brandon Scheffler commented.
Regardless of which flavor you prefer, Tic Tacs remain popular the world over. According to Ferrero, the candies are sold in over 100 countries worldwide.
And here’s another interesting Tic Tac tidbit: 45 percent of the world’s Tic Tacs are made in a Ferrero plant in Ireland.
Now that’s what I’m tic talkin’ about.
