The boys' soccer season hit a bit of a snag these past two weeks as their season continued.
While this two week cycle got off to a incredible start with a 6-0 victory at home against Central Valley September 19, the other four games they played were not nearly as successful.
The team lost an away game against South Fayette 2-1 September 22, then finished out the week with a narrow defeat at Blackhawk High School 3-2 September 24 in overtime.
The next week, the team lost handily at home to Montour 2-0 September 28, and then lost another heartbreakingly close game away at Chartiers Valley 2-1 September 30.
With their now negative record, one can’t help but wonder why the season is transpiring the way that it is. According to one of the team's captains, senior Tyler Haczela, their losses are the result little more than mistakes being made on the field.
"We definitely haven’t been outplayed . . . but we lose most games on big mistakes," Haczela lamented.
Coach Scott Hazuda, as always, maintains the most optimism for his team's chances this season, and laid out concrete steps that the team can take to reverse their fortunes.
"The team has definitely shown progress. We're moving the ball much better, and hopefully we're advanced enough that it will make the difference the second time through the section," Hazuda said.
