Beaver Area Middle School recently hired a new math teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Smith.
Mrs. Smith was hired to fill the role previously held by Mr. Steven Maker. Mr. Maker became a high school math teacher at Beaver Area due to the retirement of Mr. Tom Driscoll at the end of the last school year.
Mrs. Smith attended Ambridge High School and then went to college at the University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown.
Prior to taking the job at Beaver Area, Mrs. Smith taught for eight years. Right out of college she taught math at Mapletown High School. Last year, she was a paraprofessional at Riverside High School.
Is this job what you have always wanted to do or did your “path” change and lead you to this new occupation?
“I’ve always wanted to be a teacher.”
What is something you want your new students to know about you?
“I’m very organized and always willing to help.”
What is your favorite part about your job?
“My favorite part about my job is seeing students succeed at something they couldn’t do.”
Did where you grow up have an impact on your occupation choice?
“Yes, because I liked my teachers.”
What is your biggest strength that will help your students at Beaver Area Middle School?
“I’m very organized and willing to help.”
What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
“Getting to know middle school students.”
If you could teach another subject what would it be?
“Technology.”
Who was/is your biggest inspiration?
“My first grade teacher, Mrs. Juba.”
What is one thing you wish your students would take away from you and remember for life?
“It’s okay if you make a mistake as long as you keep trying.”
