The Beaver Area Marching Band closed the season with an amazing performance.
The band performed their halftime show, “Pop Rocks,” one final time at home November 8.
The 2024 season theme “Pop Rocks” included songs “Crazy in Love,” by Beyoncé, “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” by Guns N’ Roses, “Blinding Lights,” by The Weeknd, and “I Love Rock and Roll,” by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts.
From long days at camp in August, to practices after school, to traveling to away games, to performing at home, now comes the end to the marching season.
Band Director Mr. J.P. Scanga stated, “I am very proud of our marching band students! They embraced new ideas, supported one another, and gave a consistent effort throughout the season.”
The 2024 season was a season of new experiences, wether it was for new or returning members.
“I think this year’s season went very well. The band started many new traditions and they were happy to try anything else that came their way,” added Assistant Band Director Mr. Steven Maker.
For example, the band added dancing to the drum-line’s cadences, and a dance break into the last song selection, “I Love Rock and Roll,” by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, during the drum break.
Adding that the drum line was invited to play at a girls’ volleyball game and invited to play at a boys’ soccer game.
Drum line instructor Mr. Louis Didio shared, “We are excited to get the drum line out to some different school events to show our support for other organizations in our community. We have had a lot of fun and look forward to continuing this trend in the future!”
November 29, the band performed in Beaver’s annual Light-up Night parade.
Students were able to decorate their instruments with lights and Christmas decorations.
The band played “Jolly Old Saint Nicholas,” and the drum line played cadences between with the dancing of the band.
Freshman color guard member Alayna Pentz explained, “This season was an absolute gift. I’m so grateful I joined the marching band this year. I believe this season was a great success for all of us. Our progress throughout the season was immense. I believe that everyone put in their best effort and so much dedication into the show. Go band!”
While the band still has the Memorial Day parade in 2025, the band has put in an amazing season with their talent, dedication, and energy.
Mr. Didio also added, “The Beaver Area marching band had a terrific season with a great group of student leaders. The band looks to carry the momentum gained from this year into the next season where we can continue the traditions established by this special group. See everyone in 2025!”
