It’s nearly time to hang up the skates for the Bobcats hockey team after a long, challenging season that began back in October.
Despite losing their senior night game they did the best they knew how in a season of more losses than wins. The graduating seniors are goaltender Brandon Scheffler, right wing Nick Emmi, right wing Garrett McElwain, and defenseman Jeremy Jenkins.
The senior night game against North Hills January 31 had a final score of 8-3 with goals by McElwain (2) and junior Hayden Vongray (1).
The Bobcats then were back on the road to the RMU Island Sports Center for an 11-2 drubbing against the Sewickley Academy Panthers February 4. Bobcat goals were netted by Jenkins and junior Connor Hartman.
Even though the season is close to being over for these Bobcats they haven’t given up. They still are putting all they’ve got left in their last few games.
“It feels weird to know I only have a couple of more games as a Bobcat hockey player. I will miss playing with this team because we are all like a family. Even though the season wasn’t as good as we hoped it was still memorable,” said Emmi.
That never-say-die attitude paid off in their next match-up—a real Valentine sweetheart.
The Bobcat players pulled out a decisive win at Brady’s Run in their last home game of the season against Freeport February 14 with a score of 6-2. Goals were scored by Jenkins (2), freshman Josh Sitler (1), sophomore Keith Kessler (2), and Hartman (1).
“It felt good to win our last home game of the season—and my last home game as a Beaver Bobcat ever,” said Scheffler.
Bobcat hockey suffered a punishing loss to West Allegheny, 17-0, February 18. The team played their hardest even though two of their stringer defenseman were out on injured reserve: Connor Hartman and Jenkins.
But just when you thought the regular season was over, the Bobcats have been pushed into a tie-breaker match-up against Blackhawk this evening. In the past, league ties were settled on penalty minutes, but that changed this year.
Come out and support your Bobcats at Brady’s Run Ice Arena to see the tie-breaker matchup to see who makes it into the playoffs. The puck drops at 8 p.m.
