The former President is under fire once more, and this time it appears he may be the one losing this battle.
March 30, Donald Trump was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury for allegedly paying hush money to Stormy Daniels during his 2016 campaign. Not only that, but it’s been said that he used his campaign money to do so.
Under the Federal Election Campaign Act, it is illegal for a candidate or a holder of federal office to use any accepted campaign contributions for personal matters.
April 3, Trump traveled from his Mar-a-Lago residency in Florida to New York City, where he would surrender to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office and face trial on the afternoon of April 4.
Because of security reasons, no cameras were allowed to be recording in the courtroom during the arraignment.
Trump will likely not face any jail time; however, it is expected he will be taken in for a mugshot and fingerprinting, but then will be released on bail.
It is not clear how this will affect Trump's bid for the White House in 2024.
I have to admit, Trump got what was coming to him. He deliberately paid off Daniels with campaign money knowing that he was under the watchful eye of the world, and also was one of the most targeted individuals in the country.
Now whether this whole indictment was politically motivated, as it has been accused of being in recent weeks, we may never know. But let’s be real: in this dumpster fire of a political climate we are living in now, should this really be the focus of national attention? Don’t we have more important things to worry about?
What about the national deficit? Or the Nashville shooting? Or the southern border? Maybe even the 2024 election?
Apparently not.
Time will tell Trump’s fate, but no doubt this could be the incident that shapes the 2024 election.
