With the torrent of cool weather overcoming summer, the crop tops and short shorts go back in the drawer—making way for the ever-fabulous fall fashion! From thick socks to flannels, the clothing choices are slowly shifting to a more comfortable (and cozy) theme.
Theodora Sakkas, a senior, emphasized the enjoyable side of autumn clothing that many vehemently endorse.
“I love comfy clothes; I mean hoodies and leggings, man. You can’t wear those in the summertime; you’d get hot. You can wear them in the fall and feel comfortable and go anywhere,” she remarked, lounging back in a hoodie.
Junior Evan Linkimer added to the appreciation of cozy clothing, with his favorites being “Skinny jeans and a sweatshirt.”
Leggings again seem to be the fall pants of choice for the ladies, as junior Elisabeth Sewall also stated, “I like leggings because they can be very comfortable, you can dress them up and they can be comfortable, or dress them down.”
In the ‘trendy’ department, Theodora seemed more unsure as to what was her favorite, simply stating, “I like Doc Martens [shoes], but I don’t know many people who wear them.”
Little does she know, there is a vast number of people who enjoy wearing the chunky-soled classics, as seen from 528,000 posts under the #docmartens tag on Instagram.
What could one take from all these fashionable ideas? Wear oversized sweaters, as multiple Beaver Area students suggest.
“I love cute, like, oversized sweaters. Oh, I also like cute cardigans,” said junior Sarah Tanner, her expression bright.
Emphasis on the “cute.”
Senior Hannah Oberg added, “I’m excited for comfy, oversized sweaters this fall!” Elisabeth, along with other fashion-savvy students, tends to dress according to the aesthetic of the outdoors. As the rain falls or leaves erupt into beautiful shades of orange, her outfits of choice change to fit the mood.
“If it’s rainy I might feel more inclined to throw on a hoodie, but if it’s just cold, I’ll try to dress up. If it’s closer to Halloween, I’ll also start wearing more orange, and if it’s closer to Thanksgiving, I’ll start wearing more browns,” Elisabeth said simply.
Junior Brandon Kanell, AKA class of 2020’s fashion icon, had much to say about men’s fall fashion, stating excitedly, “I’m most excited for sweaters, turtlenecks, and everything in that general area. I’m also really excited to wear more dark colors! Around the spring and summer, it’s still generally warm and sunny, so it’s out of place to wear things considered more dark or complex. So, clothes like flannels, ripped black jeans, and long pants and shorts come into fashion [during the fall], which are all very versatile!”
However, Theodora had an intense disdain for the formerly trendy accessory known as the fanny pack, which has slowly been slipping back into style in recent years.
“If I see someone wearing a fanny pack, so help me . . . Some people can pull it off, some can’t. If you can’t, please don’t do it. They’re horrible.”
