Some may have noticed several new security cameras installed around Beaver Area schools.
The previous cameras were outdated having been installed 10 years ago, so they were not up to speed. The new cameras are upgraded with higher resolution which makes keeping an eye on our schools much easier—and safer.
Although the new cameras were installed in mostly the same locations, a few additional cameras are in other areas that cannot be identified for security reasons. The school district is confident that the upgraded cameras will be efficient.
Beaver Area used grant money to fund all the upgraded cameras.
Our Beaver Area STAP program also was involved with Secure Technical Solutions (STS) handling the camera placement. STAP then handled set-up and got them all up and running in only about three days at the end of summer.
In preparation, STAP was coming into school during the summer multiple times a week to get all of the technology and cameras ready for the school year.
The district’s technology coordinator, Mr. James Shay, who oversees STAP, said he was very impressed with the work his students did.
“I didn’t have to do much; my STAP group really got it done and it was very impressive,” Mr. Shay shared.
STS upgraded the cameras in Dutch Ridge and College Square elementary schools as well.
Some rumors have been going around about the police having access to the cameras; however, only the staff and administrators of Beaver Area have access to the cameras.
“I was very happy with the work the STAP group was able to accomplish for our school. It will only make our district a better place for our students,” said Principal Sean Snowden.
