After one of the best seasons in recent years, the Beaver Area High School baseball team’s great run has come to an unexpected close.

Coming off a section championship, the Bobcats earned the fourth overall seed in the playoffs putting them up against thirteenth seeded Derry Area May 11 at Deer Lakes High School.

In a playoff stunner, the Bobcats fell 2-1. Despite a great pitching performance from juniors Jackson Reese and Derek Hughes, the Bobcats were ice cold at the plate preventing them from getting over the hump.

Hughes said, “It stinks bad to lose a game like this, but I feel more so for the seniors.”

Though the season didn’t end how the Bobcats would like, it was undoubtedly a successful season. The Bobcats were able to secure an outright section title for the first time since 1983 and will send four Bobcats from this year’s senior class to play college baseball.

Max Tanner will go on to play collegiately at Washington and Jefferson College. Tanner will likely play third base.

Mikey Corob will go on to play at Waynesburg University as a catcher.

Logan Hill will bring his talents on the mound to Bethany College. Hill will look to make a large impact at Bethany as he returns to full health after injury.

Last but not least, Josh Derringer is taking his talents to Westminster College. Derringer has been committed to Westminster since the fall and will join the team as a pitcher.

Though the Bobcats will lose four crucial seniors, there is still a very positive outlook for the team next season. Hughes and Reese will return as leaders on the team and will look to continue the success they had individually this season. Sophomore Cooper Hill also looks to step into a bigger role next season as an upperclassman as well.
