Baseball season is back and everyone is excited to see what these Bobcats can do.
The last time Beaver Area High School’s baseball team was able to have a season, they won the WPIAL and runners-up in the state championship.
But much can change from season to season in high school sports as some players graduate while others grow, so the Bobcats are excited to start the season.
Playing in quad-A section 2 this season, the bobcats’ first scrimmage, March 15, was against the New Brighton Lions. This was the first of any type of baseball in a long time for most of these boys.
And that time off the field meant it was a rusty start—but they are not stopping there as they want to win every game they can and make a deep playoff run.
Despite the slow start while trailing 6-2 most of the game, the Bobcats scored an outstanding 10 runs in the sixth inning launching them to the win 12-6.
“We are very excited, working hard, and looking forward to a good season together this year,” explained senior infielder Brady Hansen.
Hansen was part of the WPIAL championship team at second base as was senior outfielder James Finch who also was the pinch runner.
March 22, the Bobcats then faced the single-A Western Beaver Golden Beavers who offered little challenge in an 18-2 drubbing.
Unfortunately, the first regular season game wasn’t what was expected as the Bobcats fell to the West Allegheny Indians 9-4.
The Bobcats went to Chippewa Park April 8 to face school rival, the Blackhawk Cougars.
The Bobcats again sadly fell short 12-8 to the Cougars but had an amazing comeback in the top of the seventh where they strung together hits and drove in four runs in one inning.
Just 24 short hours later, the Bobcats hosted the Cougars at home with score and recap in the issue to follow.
