Ladies and gentlemen, we ask you now to please turn off your cellphones, sit back, relax, and get ready, as the spring musical is right around the corner.
This year, Beaver Area High School will stage the musical My Favorite Year. The two main characters of the show, Benjy Stone and Alan Swann, will be played by senior Brandon Kanell (Stone) and junior Spencer Hagen (Swann).
“This upcoming musical will be a reflection of our amazing cast and our great relationships with each other. I look forward to learning a lot from our seniors. It’s going to be a blast,” said Hagen.
Set in the 1950’s, Hagen’s character Swann is an aging, washed-up actor known for his swashbuckling characters on screen (and drunken, womanizing behavior off screen) who’s looking to clean up his act and remain relevant by appearing on the live variety King Kaiser TV program.
“I am beyond excited to be playing Benjy Stone in this year’s musical! With such an amazing cast, I have no doubt in our ability to put on a fantastic show,” explained Kanell.
Kanell’s character Stone is a young writer working on King Kaiser’s show assigned to keep Swann sober and out of trouble.
“Each individual cast member has taken on their character in ways that we are beyond happy to see. With hard work, dedication, and lots of memorization, this show will prove to be one of the best shows I’ve ever been a part of,” said senior student director Abigail Kohrmann.
Mrs. Susan Metelsky again will helm the production, Mr. J.P. Scanga will direct the orchestra, and Mrs. Heather Bixler and a team of student assistants will choreograph.
The dates of the show are March 20, 21, and 22. See you in the auditorium.
