As temperatures rise and the field defrosts, excitement builds for the upcoming softball season. After months of offseason training and preparation, the team is ready to take the field with energy and high expectations.

Practices have already shown signs of growth, teamwork, and dedication, setting the tone for what could be a successful season.

Junior Claire Miller’s personal goal for this season is to improve upon her hitting and be better at the plate. She is most excited about having another year to play with this team.

Miller said, “The thing I enjoy most about softball is the friends I make because they are always there for me and pick me up when I’m having a bad game.”

The girls’ biggest expectation set by the coaches is to play for the team and not just for yourself. The coaches emphasize the concept of “mudita” which is the ability to feel genuine happiness for another person’s success and accomplishments.

Miller says that this year’s team will be different from last year’s because the Bobcats have new girls and new opportunities. The upcoming freshmen this year are talented and will be a big part of the team’s success.

“I think that the player who improved most during the off season since last season was [junior] Abby Gottschalk,” Miller said.

However, Miller thinks the biggest challenge for the team will be that people are playing many different positions that they’re not used to and will have to adapt. And the hardest game this year will be against Blackhawk or Hampton.
