The Ladycat basketball team is currently in their rebuilding phase with an extremely small and young girls squad.
Beaver Area only has two seniors, Lauren Nesbella and Chloe Desanzo, and has at least one freshman consistently being a member of the starting five. This lineup creates difficulties as well as hopes for future seasons.
The Bobcats are shooting for a winning season, and despite being the 2020 WPIAL 4A champions, this goal remains realistic.
Beaver Area is currently 2-2 overall and 0-2 in regular season play.
Those two wins came early as the Ladycats became the 2023 Brentwood Tip-Off Tournament champions. The tournament is fairly small with the Bobcats only having to play two games to take it all, but nonetheless the tournament started the season off great for the Bobcats.
December 1, the first day of the tournament, the girls played against West Mifflin and won in a close game with a final score of 36-31.
The second day and second game wasn’t as close but made the Bobcats champions. The final score was 37-25.
Freshman Annsley Baker was named tournament MVP. She is the first freshman in the history of the tournament to win the award.
The Bobcats quickly pivoted and prepared for their first regular season game against Plum December 4.
Sadly, the Bobcats suffered a tough loss and rode the bus home with a 0-1 record after a final score of 62-38.
Just one day later, December 5, it was back on the bus for yet another away game against the North Hills Indians . . . and another quiet ride home as the Bobcats suffered a hard loss with a final score of 55-28.
The Ladyats will play their first home game tonight against Elizabeth Forward. The Warriors are currently undefeated in regular season games and the Bobcats are looking to break their streak. See you in the gym.
