The school board received a prom-posal of a lifetime from the junior class officers March 15. What ever are they going to wear?
Junior class officers Julia Pizzella and Kate Verone presented their plan for this year's prom at the school board work session March 15.
Things weren’t looking good for a traditional prom due to Covid-19 concerns—and there was talk that this year’s prom might suffer the same fate as last year’s: cancellation.
Pizzella’s and Verone’s proposal was to hold an indoor prom at the Shadow Lakes golf course outside Aliquippa due to its availability, space for social distancing, and excellent air filtration system. With these combined factors, it's possible that in spite of everything, prom could look relatively normal.
Their proposal would push prom back from its originally scheduled date of May 7 to May 22.
Verone and Pizzella also mentioned the possibility of a dinner and a dance made for social distancing. According to them, professional event planners should be consulted to plan the best and safest prom possible.
As a concession to Covid-19 concerns, the board excluded outside guests and sophomore dates from this year’s modified prom.
According to junior Wyatt Ringer, many students are excited for the school's plan.
"Everyone's excited and everyone seems to be going. Some people are sad that they can’t bring outside guests, though," Ringer said.
Though this is a very cheery forecast for attendance rates, some students are still unsure about attending.
Senior Elena Kazas was excited that the class of 2021 would finally have another event.
"Seniors haven’t had a lot to do this year, and this is kind of the only thing we can look forward to," Kazas said.
"I’m a solid 'perhaps' because I can’t bring my girlfriend who goes to another school," said junior Matthew Bickerton. He continued by hedging his bets, saying, "any Beaver Area girls who would like to come with me are much appreciated."
"Under these circumstances, more people will be attending, so I will also go," said junior Casen Pontoli.
Ticket prices, menu, entertainment, and some other specifics are still being determined, but check the ECHO’s next issue for any developing information.
