The Bobcats tough hockey season came to an end after a rough stretch full of hard opponents.
The Bobcats started down the homestretch of the season with four games left beginning with Montour High School February 9 losing 12-4. Trevor Schmidt and Carson Cuddy netted goals in addition to Tanner Nicol scoring twice.
The Bobcats’ next game was another home game (at Brady’s Run), this time against Moon High School February 16. The Bobcats fell just short of a win losing 3-2 with Schmidt and Brayden Dawson each scoring for the Cats.
For one last time the Bobcats travelled to an away game, this one against Wheeling Park High School February 21. The bus ride was worth it when the Bobcats picked up their second win of the season with a 4-2 win with goals coming from Schmidt, Roman Guido, Nicol, and Zack Masters.
“It felt good to win one—and we doubled our win total in the process,” said sophomore Caden Canavesi.
Since the Bobcats won only a single game last season, this season’s two-win total marks an improvement.
The Bobcats had one last game when they took on North Catholic on senior night February 23. Unfortunately the Bobcats fell short losing 5-2 with Schmidt and Sean Flaugh scoring the Bobcats’ goals.
The Bobcats finished the season with a 2-18 record and missing the playoffs.
“I think we’ve got plenty to build upon for next year and beyond, and as for this year, obviously it’s rough being in the division we play in, but I’m proud of the boys’ efforts and I thought we made the most of what we could,” said head coach Josh Bioni.
