It’s time to treat yourself. Well, not quite Parks and Rec style, but it’s still a good thing.
There is a new organization at Beaver Area High School that is all about properly caring for yourself. Beaver Area’s guidance team started a self-care group for all students grades 9-12.
The group works on dealing with multiple topics like social skills and stress management. Right now the group is focused on managing stress caused by school, sports, clubs, and other common adolescent stressors.
The club discusses each topic for six sessions. For example, during one of the six sessions, the group will discuss the difference between positive and negative self-care habits.
The idea for the group began when counselor Miss Brittany Coleman learned that many students at Beaver Area are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and stressed on a daily basis. So she and the guidance team wanted to start this group to help the students. Their goal is to help reduce the feelings of stress in teenagers.
“My overall goal for the self-care club is to decrease stress and allow students to learn healthy coping skills for managing stress,” explained Miss Coleman.
The club meets every Wednesday during all lunch periods. Any freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior can sign up in the Guidance Office to attend. The only thing you need is a signed permission slip from a parent to participate in the meetings.
Also, don’t worry about missing your lunch if you attend the meetings; you will be provided with yummy pizza in the guidance conference room.
Pizza and help battling stress? Sounds like you better “treat yo’self!”
