It’s a presidential election year! And due to some recent events, we are now down to only a few candidates.
Currently, there are two remaining Republican candidates, one Democratic candidate, and one Independent.
January 21, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, ended his 2024 presidential bid, and publicly endorsed his former rival, former President Donald Trump. DeSantis was predicted to be a strong contender in this election with the potential to bring fresh blood to the White House. Some even predicted that DeSantis was the only politician in the country that could beat Trump in the primaries.
But it was not to be.
This departure left Trump as well as former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley as the two remaining candidates for the GOP.
President Joe Biden now runs unopposed in the Democratic Party, since his only opponent, Robert Kennedy Jr., switched to Independent back in October.
Honestly, I’m surprised Haley has made it this far. She was one of the first Republicans to announce her campaign; however, she hasn’t been considerably well liked amongst the party, many of whom believe she is “too moderate.”
I understand that, and I fully agree. Right now, our country needs someone who is going to be strong in their beliefs, not dance on the fine line between both sides.
Trump has proven before to be the iron fist the country needs, and Joe Biden has proven to be a weak leader.
RFK likely stands the most formidable chance of any Independent candidate in many years. But I don’t believe he has what it takes to lead the country. He has a name and a family history to stand on but not much more.
There is no doubt this election will be a close race, especially if it turns into the ‘2020 rematch’ that many are expecting. We can only hope that our democracy will prevail and our country will choose the right person to lead us.
