As fall comes around, so does the next chapter of the ever-popular Call of Duty franchise. Black Ops 4 is Treyarch’s latest attempt at carrying on the Black Ops title. But what do you think, is 4 too many for the series? Or should they continue watering down the Black Ops name.
“I believe they should continue making more Black Ops; they are my favorite games from recent years,” answered active Call of Duty enthusiast senior Zach Little.
Even after the Fortnite explosion, Call of Duty still enjoys one of the strongest fan bases in the gaming community. And it is no secret that Call of Duty fans love the nostalgic feel from previous Treyarch titles from the Black Ops series. So Treyarch answered by bringing back some fan-favorite maps: Firing Range, Nuketown, Jungle, Summit, and Slums.
Treyarch made the smart decision of keeping the famous FPS to its roots by staying “boots on the ground.”
Veteran Call of Duty player senior Dom Petrella welcomed the new Call of Duty: “It feels like playing the glory days of COD—no more jetpacks and more classic maps.”
Personally, I believe the biggest issue with Black Ops 4 is not anything with the actual gameplay but the lack of maps coming from launch. I find the only maps I enjoy playing are the maps from previous games but not the new ones.
Black Ops 4 is unique in its own way by being the first Call of Duty to not have a single player campaign. This omission allowed Treyarch developers to focus on creating their new battle royale game mode known as Blackout. Blackout gets its inspiration from the more recently hyped Battle Royale concept games: Fortnite, Player Unknown Battlegrounds, or even H1Z1.
The final verdict on Black Ops 4 is that the game is excellent. That’s if you enjoy games that aren’t dependent on the single-player story. The game offers endless hours of entertainment with every match being more addictive than the last. But don’t get me wrong: there is definitely a learning curve to Black Ops 4 despite its familiar features.
