The annual TLC Present Drive is a Beaver Area High School tradition giving you a chance to give gifts to foster kids during the holidays.
Usually, people sign up and shop for a specific child in Beaver County’s foster care system. Once the presents arrive, Mrs. Sams, the teacher in charge of Teen Leadership Corps (TLC) would collect all presents in her classroom, and then TLC members would wrap them to be distributed as Christmas gifts for the foster children.
This year due to COVID-19, the TLC Present Drive looks a little different.
Mrs. Sams created gift registries for the community through Amazon and Walmart through which people can pick and choose what gifts to buy for the children, make their purchases, and then the toys will be sent directly to Mrs. Sams.
“We had to make some big changes,” explained Mrs. Sams, “but this method also allowed us to run the present drive remotely.”
Mrs. Sams also reports that Nerf blasters are a popular choice among the children this year.
The TLC Present Drive is a great way to give back to those in need, especially this year with ongoing COVID-19 concerns.
But time is running out—all gifts must be ordered by Thursday to ensure delivery to the children in time for Christmas.
