Beaver Area boys tennis returns to the courts.
The boys tennis team season starts earlier than most of the springs sports. While the rest of the spring sports start the last week of March, the boys tennis team started in mid-March.
March 16 the Bobcats traveled to Ambridge High School for their first section match of the season. The boys had a clean sweep against the Bridgers, 5-0, to start off the season with a winning record.
Although a few days later, the Bobcats had their home opener against one of their toughest section opponents, Mars High School.
Both the singles and doubles teams struggled to find success on the court against Mars resulting in a 4-1 Bobcat loss.
“This was a tough loss for us so early in the season, but we will make a comeback,” predicted senior Grady Johnson.
Johnson was right: the losing streak didn’t last for long when boys traveled to Beaver Falls High School. March 23, all of the Bobcats dominated during their matches resulting in another clean sweep, 5-0, over the Tigers.
The Bobcats returned to their home courts March 30 against Blackhawk High School. The Cougars are a huge section rival for the Bobcats, so the team knew their serves and returns had to be accurate.
All of the boys faced tough competition but were able to pull off a 3-2 win over the Cougars. First singles, junior Andrew Cavett, second singles Johnson, and third singles junior Zane Atkins all won their matches in the team’s win over Blackhawk.
The next day, March 31, the Bobcats traveled to Seneca Valley High School. Heading into this match coming off a two-match winning streak, the Bobcats hoped to make it three. Unfortunately, the Eagles ended the win streak by defeating the Bobcats 5-0.
April 5 the Bobcats returned to their home courts once again to take on Central Valley High School. The Warriors are another team the Bobcats knew from the start of the season that would be tough to beat.
Unfortunately, the Bobcats prediction was right resulting in a tough 5-0 loss for the team.
This week the Bobcats are on the road all week traveling to Ellwood City High School today for a regular section match, North Allegheny High School Tuesday and Wednesday for WPIAL singles, and Riverside High School Thursday for another section match.
Good luck, Bobcats!
