The Bobcats baseball team looked to finish the year strong after continuous struggles throughout the season.
The Bobcats picked back up April 21 when they traveled to Avonworth for a non-conference matchup. Despite putting up 8 runs the Bobcats couldn’t push through and fell 12-8. Jack Ray led the way this game with two RBI’s.
April 25 the Bobcats once again traveled Rt. 65 to Ambridge for the first of a two-game series. The Bobcats won the first game comfortably as they cruised to a 14-3 win. Mitch Lang and Liam Dorsky both had strong days leading the team with three RBI’s. On the mound, Ray also struck out seven batters in 4.1 innings of work.
April 26 the Bobcats hosted Ambridge, but were unable to sweep the series as they lost 6-1. Dorsky led the team with two hits and the Bobcats’ lone RBI.
The Bobcats looked to get back on track when they traveled to Neshannock in a non-conference game April 27. Unfortunately the Bobcats were unable to come away with a win again falling 9-5 to the Lancers. Dorsky and Isaac Pupi both led the team with two hits in the game.
The next game for the Bobcats was senior night and also a must-win game if they wished to keep their playoff hopes alive. The game finally was played May 8 after multiple weather postponements.
On the mound again, Ray had a stellar pitching performance going 5.2 innings and recording eight strikeouts including a strikeout with the bases loaded. Despite Ray’s performance the Bobcats lost the biggest game of the season by the smallest score: 1-0.
There was now only one game left for the Bobcats and they traveled to neighboring Blackhawk May 9 for it. It was a tough blow to end the season when the Bobcats fell 11-3 and ended their season on a four-game winning streak. Corbin Sevcik batted two RBI’s in the Bobcats’ loss.
“This season was an unfortunate run, but we still had fun,” reported Ray.
The Bobcats finished the season 4-12 with a 2-8 conference record with two wins at home and two on the road.
“I’m proud of how we handled our situation this year; obviously it wasn’t the best way to end the season and it certainly didn’t go our way, but that doesn’t take away from the hard work the boys continued to put in,” said head coach Noah Medich.
Despite losing Ray to graduation, the Bobcats now turn their attention to next season and hopes of a strong performance.
