Like other Bobcat teams recently, Beaver Area boys golf had a challenging season trying to compete in their newly assigned triple-A section. They were faced with elite golf competitors such as Moon, Blackhawk, and West Allegheny.
Struggling to keep their heads above water, the team finished with a losing record of 5-7. Their home course was again Seven Oaks Country Club.
“We lost a lot of good golfers who graduated last year, and then we got moved into triple-A. We faced a lot of good teams, and [we] didn’t have the scores necessary to win enough matches,” explained senior Jack Yanssens.
Although the team didn’t make playoffs, they had some major wins throughout the season: sweeping Ambridge, splitting scores with Montour, and dominating New Castle were all satisfying.
“This golf season was one to remember—this season has been definitely been different from the rest because [before the move to triple-A] we have always been blessed with wins. But in the end we had a great group of guys who got along well which made the season much more memorable,” reflected senior Ben Jaworowski.
“We had a lot of positives to our season: we played up this year in division 3 which provided a challenge, but the team responded well to that challenge,” said coach Mike Ludwig.
After a well-fought season, the golf team will suffer the loss of three seniors to graduation: Rye Boeh, Ben Jaworowski, and Jack Yanassess.
That being said, if there is a secret Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, or Brooks Koepka in Beaver Area High school interested in playing golf next year, stop by Room 103. Mr. Ludwig really wants to talk to you!
