After starting 2025 with a thrilling game against their rival Blackhawk, the Bobcats looked to build off that momentum and carry it into the rest of the season.
The Bobcats traveled to Chartiers Valley January 13 where they faced off against a tough opponent. After a scoreless first period, the Bobcats had a brief 1-0 lead thanks to a goal by freshman Brooke Goulder, but they couldn’t keep up with the Colts and ended up falling 7-1.
Looking to bounce back from the loss, the Bobcats hosted Westmont Hilltop, a team they already beat earlier in the season, January 16. Beaver Area quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals scored by seniors Aidan Natali and Zack Masters.
Westmont Hilltop then scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead into the third period. But early in the third period the Bobcats were able to find the equalizer with a goal scored by freshman Sammy Mecchia.
With overtime looming, senior captain Trevor Schmidt found a dramatic game-winning goal with 4 seconds remaining on the clock. The 4-3 win capped a brilliant back and forth game that saw the game go all the way down to the closing seconds before a late game-winning goal.
After the dramatic finish from their previous game, Beaver Area was looking to pick up their second win in a row when they traveled to Plum January 20. The Bobcats jumped out to another early 1-0 lead with a goal from Schmidt before the Mustangs were able to find the equalizer to tie the game 1-1 after the first period.
Following a scoreless second period, Plum pushed hard in the third and was too much for the Bobcats to handle as they came away with a 4-1 victory.
Three Bobcat players were also recently selected to play in the PIHL All Star Game which took place January 26. Junior Danny Cogis was selected along with Masters and Schmidt.
“It was really fun to play in a laid back but still competitive game with lots of the friends I made throughout my years playing hockey,” said Masters.
The Bobcats last two home games are February 6 against Shaler which is also senior night and February 20 against rival Blackhawk in the last game of the season. Both games start at 6:45 p.m. at the Brady’s Run Ice Arena.
