Beaver Area High School boys varsity kicked off their new season with an impressive 4-0 record (at the time of writing).

The team’s strong record as of now includes wins over tough schools like Quaker Valley, Mohawk, and Keystone Oaks. In one close match against Quaker Valley August 28, Beaver Area held a 1-0 lead.

Sophomore Jack O’Leary is contributing a big role to the Bobcats this year as he’s double rostered on both the JV and varsity teams.

“I’ve played soccer since I was 5, and I’ve always been dedicated to the game. Being double rostered this year was a huge accomplishment for me,” said O’Leary.

“The first two weeks before school started, we had two-a-day practices,” said O’Leary.

“Two-a-days are about five days before the season starts where we have two sessions a day: one in the morning and one in the afternoon,” he explained.

Coach Scott Hazuda has been keeping the boys busy with intense practices and focused training sessions to prepare them for the tough competition ahead.

The players have faced tough opponents but stayed focused.

“Every match feels important because we want to keep this winning streak going to get to the playoffs,” O’Leary said.

The strong start hasn’t stopped the team from looking for ways to improve.

“I would say the team as a whole needs to work on set pieces and marking. If we can stay more focused during free kicks and corners, we’ll be tougher on defense,” O’Leary suggested.

O’Leary says the team’s chemistry has played a big part in their success so far.

“We’ve all been pushing each other to get better every day,” he said.

With their strong start and focused mindset, Beaver Area High School boys soccer looks ready to keep building strength as the season continues.

Their next game is Thursday against rivals Avonworth on the Pat Tarquino field. It is expected to be a close game.
