The senior and junior girls took to the gridiron to settle who really is the superior class on a cold afternoon November 17. The junior girls prevailed with a surprising upset, beating the seniors 49-21 in the annual flag-football showdown.
The game was organized by the senior class officers and PE teachers Ms. Susan Pilarski to help benefit the senior banquet. It was refereed by Sgt. Weaver, Mr. Antoline, and Mr. List.
“It was a lot of fun to play [football] with my friends,” said senior Julia Spokane.
Seniors Brodie List, Charlie Zorich, Noah Yates, George Peroni, and Noah Brassell coached the seniors. Practicing every day before the game, the seniors were definitely the most prepared team in the contest (maybe just not the most talented).
Seniors Mason Rose, Matt Lipinski, Gino Mavero, Abe Naber, and juniors Dante Castagna and Jackson Thomas coached the junior team. With just three practices conducted before the matchup, the junior team had less time than the seniors to prepare for the field. But this seemed to have had no effect on the result.
“It was a lot of fun kicking the seniors’ butts, and coach Matt and Gino were really fun,” said junior Kristi Buckenheimer.
“I was in the injured reserves cheering the team on; I was basically assistant coach,” said junior Carlee Tindell.
Junior Sarah Gido was the standout player of the game with two pick-sixes and who overall helped power the junior defense.
“I couldn’t catch a ball in practice, but getting two interception homeruns or whatever they are was really surprising and fun to me because I know nothing about football,” said Gido.
