For the past 18 years, Mrs. Judy Spada has lit up our school’s hallways with her warm smile and sound advice—sometimes in a loud voice over the PA . . .
But it’s time for her to shine that light somewhere else.
Originally working as a secretary in the high school office, Mrs. Spada transitioned to the attendance secretary role before she finally settled into the role of middle school office secretary, which is where she has been for the past eight years.
Anyone who has entered Mrs. Spada’s middle school office is aware of the positivity the space radiates. The walls and cabinets are adorned with posters and pictures encouraging students to try their best. These decorations reflect Spada herself, whose positive energy has helped many students in their transition from grade to grade.
In fact, this transition was one of Spada’s favorite aspects of working with the intermediary grades.
“Being able to comfort incoming seventh graders and celebrate with the outgoing eighth graders is one of my favorite things about working in middle school,” she stated.
One thing she won’t be missing? Taking the school’s attendance.
“Especially with the virtual lessons,” Mrs. Spada shared, “it’s not a fun task to complete.”
However, the thing she’ll miss most of all is the family of faculty and staff that she has found here at Beaver Area.
“We really are like a family here, and I’ll miss coming in and seeing them each day,” she lamented.
This doesn’t mean Mrs. Spada will no longer be active in Beaver Area, however. Since she and her family are Brighton Township residents she will continue to be an important member of our community.
“I’ll be happy to return if I’m needed,” she shared.
Well we can all agree that we’ll always need her kind spirit and warm personality.
She often displays these endearing qualities. During our interview, she paused to help a middle school student in need of assistance, kindly providing him with the papers he needed and making sure he was headed in the right direction.
As far as her plans for retirement, she’ll certainly be keeping busy. With two grown sons of her own (one who lives in the area, and one who lives in Boston), Mrs. Spada plans to spend some quality time with her newborn grandson, Luca, and help to plan her son’s wedding for the fall.
Mrs. Spada, thank you for your years of service and dedication to our school! We’ll miss you, and we wish you all the best!
