According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 13%) will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
Like many other schools around the country each year Beaver Area participates in Pink Out fundraising and spirit days to benefit breast cancer research.
Senior Abby Noah and the Teen Leadership Corps (TLC) sponsored by Mrs. Sarah Sams sponsored this year’s Pink Out.
“I have been a member of TLC all four years of high school, and Pink Out is my favorite part about fall! All I did was ask Mrs. Sams if I could help and the rest was history!” Noah explained.
Pink Out shirts were sold in Bobcats football and girls soccer themes.
The shirts cost $15, and TLC raised over $1,400 from both the soccer and football shirt sales after selling 81 soccer shirts and 123 football shirts.
All proceeds go directly to the National Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The Pink Out football game was held October 14 while the girls soccer game was October 12, and the infamous Beaver dam student section was in full force for both events.
Noah said about this year’s event, “I think Pink Out is the best [home game] theme of the year, and the number of people who showed up decked in pink (despite the horrible weather) proves how successful the Pink Out was.”
Pink Out, per usual, proved to be widely successful and an exciting time for a good cause—and another reminder that Beaver Area cares.
