That elusive first win is brewing for the Beaver Area boys basketball team. The team is halfway through their season and they’ve continued to improve every game. Just be patient.
January 4 the team traveled to Central Valley for their eleventh game of the season. It was a well-fought and close game, unfortunately not ending in our favor 47-46. The boys never put their heads down and they played through the final buzzer.
“No matter who won, we fought as a team, we fought our hardest, and that’s all that matters. Our time is coming; don’t sleep on us,” said sophomore Charlie Higgs.
Fan Haley Hartle said, “We’ve had a rough start clearly, but I’m confident in our boys and I’m not going to lose faith! Even though the refs have been making questionable calls on us.”
The team will never lose their fan base; the students enjoy supporting each other, win or lose, it’s a schoolwide spirit.
The New Castle boys basketball team traveled to Beaver’s boards January 8 to take on the Bobcats. It was another well-fought game, a little rowdy towards the end when junior Beckett Connelly got elbowed in the nose and had to be taken off the court.
“This is just another step in the process. We are improving as a team each game. We just have to learn to close out and win games,” said Connelly.
The New Castle game was close throughout most of play until an unfortunate turn, and the final score at the final buzzer was 54-44 New Castle.
The boys are keeping their chins up as they head into their next game January 15 against Blackhawk. Maybe this time . . .
