After a hard-fought ’21 season, baseball came to an end for the Beaver Area Bobcats.
Despite exiting post-season play too early, at least their last five games were positive.
The boys started slowly with a 6-3 loss at home against the Quaker Valley Quakers May 5. But they then turned around and just 24 hours later beat the Quakers 4-3 on the road.
The next two games were the most important games of the season. These games were the decision makers on whether or not the Bobcats were going to make it into the playoffs.
The Bobcats started off with a strong high-scoring win 14-12 in a back and forth game at home against the Central Valley Warriors May 10. Junior Josh Obrist came up big with a grandslam to help the Bobcats gain a win—a $5 ride in a yellow cab.
The Bobcats then traveled across the bridge to the Warriors’ field where they would win and secure their playoff spot with a 4-2 victory.
To prepare for the playoffs, the Bobcats traveled to Keystone Oaks to face the Eagles May 14. The Bobcats would come out on top 7-2.
The final game of the season was in the first round of the WPIAL 4A playoffs. The Bobcats just slipped into the playoffs with the two wins against the Warriors meaning that they had a tough fight ahead of them if they planned to stay alive.
But May 19 was their only one-and-only postseason appearance. The Bobcats faced the Laurel Highland Mustangs falling 5-0 and ending their season with a 7-11 record.
Despite a rocky start, the Bobcats ended respectably helped by their seven superstar seniors:
