Sometimes the teachers are the students . . .
Miss Nicole Komonczi and Miss Baker are Beaver Area High School’s newest student teachers, here to improve their education along with ours.
Miss Komonczi started January 14, and she will be here until early May. She stays in Mrs. O’Rorke’s room to teach different history classes throughout the day and occasionally is in Mrs. Sams’s room for fifth period.
She observed at first, and as time went on she picked up the schedule and gets to practice a full teaching schedule every day. She has begun to get into the groove of being a teacher since she’s started this experience.
Miss Komonczi enjoys being here so far saying the Beaver Area faculty and staff is very welcoming—and that aspect has to be her favorite part.
She currently attends Geneva College and went to a small high school in New York state. At Geneva she is on the varsity track team and is field captain for the team. She enjoys throwing for the team and also likes to cook.
“Building relationships with people who are starting adulthood is very important, and sharing experience is important for young, developing students,” she explained.
Miss Baker started January 22 and is also here until early May. She works with eighth grade in Mrs. Keith’s science classes and Mr. Beltz’s biology classes. She teaches students and designs lessons with the teachers’ guidance.
Beaver Area was her first choice for student teaching. She’s been familiar with the area and students, so it’s comforting for her to be here.
Miss Baker’s favorite part of teaching is the students because she is able to see different ability levels and everyone is very unique.
“I can already tell each student has their own personality. Learning each one is my favorite part of the experience,” she said.
Miss Baker went to Blackhawk High School and now attends Slippery Rock University for college. She originally wanted to be a doctor, but started studying biology and didn’t want to limit herself to just body anatomy.
She said, “teaching was a natural thing that I picked up and loved ever since.”
Hopefully the next few months will be enjoyable and a good learning experience for both the student teachers and their students.
