Mark your calendar: April 28 marks the second annual Beaver Area Cultural Night! Hosted by the BAHS SHOUT Club, Cultural Night will take place in the cafeteria from 6-8 p.m.
SHOUT Club stands for social handprints overcoming unjust treatments, and the goal of the club is to spread awareness of the importance of diversity and inclusion in our community and society.
The evening will include an array of cultures presented by students and community members. Participants in the event will display important aspects of their culture for the community to enjoy. From homemade food, dances, live music, traditional attire, and memorabilia, you will become immersed in many beautiful cultures and customs.
SHOUT leaders seniors Gary Liu and Georgia Engle are organizing the event and will be participating as well. Gary will share his Chinese heritage through authentic Chinese cuisine and cultural attire. Georgia will cook dishes from around the world to share with everyone who attends.
Last year, Mrs. Susan Metelsky led an interactive drum circle which hopefully will take place again, and other teachers participating in the event this year include Sergeant Major Oscar Weaver, Mrs. Rachel Zahn, and Mrs. Janeen Landy.
The event itself and all the food provided will be free of charge. For any questions or interest in participating and sharing your own culture, email Gary at gxlst02@basd.k12.pa.us or sponsor Mrs. Bixler at bixlerh@basd.k12.pa.us. All students and community members are welcome to attend and participate.
