Are you smarter than a Brighton Fields HOA member?
It’s that time of year again: the National Honor Society Beaver Area’ chapter annual Trivia Night!
At the February 27 event (open to the entire community), participants formed teams of up to eight people and competed for the chance to win gift cards provided by local businesses. And all proceeds go to NHS’s backpacks program that provides food for students who don’t have meals over weekends and school holidays.
Every year, the entirety of the NHS chapter membership participates in some shape or form. For example, this year various committees were in charge of different elements of the night such as donations, raffles, signing in, technology, and more.
After weeks of planning came the big night.
Teams checked in at the cafeteria door where they also could purchase a raffle ticket after paying the $5 participation fee.
Teams then chose their seats and met with a nearby NHS-member scorer, came up with a team name, and could enjoy some snacks from the snack table (Danica, the peanut butter balls were delicious).
After everyone settled down, it was time for the games to begin shortly after 6:30 p.m.
Each of the seven rounds consisted of five-to-seven questions that covered topics ranging from science, sports, pop culture, music, and more.
With 16 teams and over 70 players total, you could cut the tension with a knife. After the emcee senior Heath Korcinsky got through the questions, regulation play ended with a three-way tie.
The three-way tie was among The Educators (consisting of our very own Mr. Kissick, Mr. Schlenke, and Mr. Maracek) Tesla's Failures, and Team Teapole.
To break the tie, Korcinsky asked three questions of his own choice. My personal favorite was “What fruit is often called the king of fruits?” (Hint, it’s known for its smell.)
After the elimination final round, The Educators emerged victorious!
“Trivia Night was very successful, and we had a great turnout. We are so grateful for everyone who supports the NHS,” said NHS Vice President Charlotte Schultz.
President Danica Purtell also said, “NHS’s trivia night was a huge success. We are so grateful to have had so many friends and family show up to help support our community. I am proud to say we raised $567 to give back to our community!”
Thanks to everyone who contributed to another successful Trivia Night, and we hope to see you there next year (especially Brighton Fields HOA who earned honorable mention for best team name).
