The Lady Bobcats are clearing a path to playoffs as their record boasts a 13-3 season thus far.
"We really think we are one of the best teams in the AAA division. I’m confident we could do some damage in the playoffs,” said coach Greg Houston.
The girls are standing tall with the number-two rank within their section—trailing only Neshannock against whom they’re 1-1.
The Bobcats protected their home gym to fight off the Beaver Falls Tigers January 14 with a dominating score of 50-34.
But the big battle was January 17—the fight for first in the section was held at Beaver’s home court against the Neshannock Lancers. Sadly, Neshannock came out on top winning the close game 42-39, tying the Bobcat vs. Lancer series at 1-1 (the ladies had beaten the Lancers in their first match-up December 13).
"I think our team can improve on consistency. We need to get up for every game, even when it’s not one of the exciting games facing a top-ranked team. Once we get to the point where we play every team with the same intensity, we will be unstoppable,” said sophomore Emma Pavelek.
The team found that intensity in their next road game January 21.
The girls were fast-acting to take home another win defeating the Ellwood City Wolverines, 48-36.
The Ladies were on the road once again to secure another Bobcat dub against Riverside, the final score being 40-24.
"My hopes for the post season are to do well in playoffs and make an impact. Making it to another WPIAL final game would be amazing, but if we don’t this season, many of us have two or more seasons yet to come,” shared Pavelek.
But at this rate, a long playoff run is all but inevitable.
The ladies play their next two games on the road against Avonworth and Mohawk, but they return home for their senior night against Freedom February 4. Be sure to be there to witness their run-up to post-season play.
